Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has addressed his side’s poor form prior to the International break but insists that the team still has the quality to turn it around and win a trophy before the end of the season.
The former Southampton man made his transfer to Anfield this summer but is yet to reproduce his form which got him nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award last season. The Reds are currently languishing in 11th spot with 14 points, three behind Arsenal and two behind Manchester United, their two main rivals for a place in the Champions League.
Lallana, who is currently with the England squad, preparing for the friendly against Slovenia has conceded that there has been a massive shift in plans this year, which has had a toll on his performance. However, he and the team are working together to make sure that the same is only a blip rather than the norm.
Daniel Sturridge should be back in action after the break, which will give the Reds some much needed respite, with Mario Balotelli failing to live up to expectations.
“It has been a great year with everything that has gone on. A lot of things have happened and it will take some going to beat it next year. That is what I am going to try to do. Hopefully we can win a trophy this season,” Lallana said.
“We all know results (for Liverpool) haven’t been to the level we want them to be – we have to just keep working hard. I can’t guarantee that results are going to change imminently, but I can assure you we are working hard for it to happen. I am enjoying it.
“We have got a nice couple of games coming up internationally, and we all know we are facing a big couple of Champions League games, plus we need to pick our form up in the league. I feel I am settling into the team nicely, albeit I want to up my contribution,” he concluded.
