The All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the Acting Inspector of General of Police Mr. Suleiman Abba over the threats of violence emanating from leader of Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Mr. Mujahid Asari Dokunbo against its national publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
Lai Mohammed had lied against Dokubo Asari, claiming he was in the plane that conveyed the money, which was wrongly seized by the South African government.
Even after Dokubo Asari proved that he traveled to Saudi Arabia for Hajj, APC and Lai Mohammed refused to offer apology for the obvious lie. They simply kept quiet.
The petition which was copied President Goodluck Jonathan and Senate President David Mark stated that the threats made in the full glare of the general public during a press interview poses threat to the life of the party’s scribe.
The letter to IG reads in parts “The attention of the party has been drawn to comments made by the leader of Niger Delta People Volunteer Force (NDPVF) Mr. Mujahid Asari Dokubo that included a threat of violence against our national publicity secretary Alhaji Lai Mohammed.”
The party said the threat was contained in an interview granted online Newspaper Premium Times by Asari Dokubo which followed a statement which was issued on behalf of the party by Alhaji Lai Mohammed asking the federal government to explain the presence of Asari Dokubo on the plane that transported US$ 9.3million to South Africa.
“In the interview Mr. Asari Dokubo said while he will adopt a “civilized approach to Mr. Mohammed by first suing the APC spokesman for his remark” he Asari Dokubo warned that should the courts fail to deliver justice, “he will resort to self help by using his hands and any other means to deal with Mohammed.”
The party added that, “ We find this a threat totally abhorring, dangerous and uncivilized and therefore wish to request that you call Asari Dokubo to order and interview him what he means by his threat to resort to self help. We have attached a copy of the said interview to this petition.
“We take the unwarranted threat very seriously , in view of the antecedent of Mr. Asari Dokubo and his propensity for violence and would hold him personally responsible if anything untoward happened to our National Publicity Secretary , Alhaji Lai Mohammed.”
The party noted that since the country operates under the rule of law rather than the laws of the jungle , the expected whoever is aggrieved over any issue should have resorted to courts to seek redress.
