The Lagos State Government said there will be no restrictions human/vehicular activities come Saturday May 30, 2015 as the the May statewide monthly Sanitation Exercise has been cancelled.
The cancellation is allow hitch free preparation for the swearing-in/inauguration ceremony of the new Governor of the state.
Governorelect, Akinwumi Ambode of All Pgrogressives Congress will be taking over from his fellow party man Babatunde Fashola, who has steered the ship of the state in the past eight years.
Commissioner for the Environment, TUNJI Bello, said it is to allow for hitch-free swearing-in/inauguration ceremony coming up both in Lagos and Abuja.
Acording to him, restriction of movement was lifted in order to allow full participation of our people during the state and National Inauguration ceremonies.
The Commissioner further stated that the restriction of movement was lifted to also allow easy transportation of fuel from the various tank farms from Lagos to other parts of the Nation, as well as allow normal return to our roads. .He however assured that the next edition of the cleaning exercise will come up in June.
The Commissioner however advised that Lagosians should still use this period for the usual cleaning of their homes, drainages in their frontages and their general environment.
He further said that both LAWMA and other Waste Managers/PSP across the State will be available to cart the Waste generated during the cleaning exercise.
He also advised that as we gradually approach the peak of the rainy season Lagosians should dispose their waste through the PSP operators as well as avoid dumping waste into drains.
Lagosians should also desist from patronizing Cart Pushers who end up disposing such waste into canals and eventually leading to flooding.
He confirmed that the State is intensifying its mid-rain deflooding programme in order to reduce to the barest minimum the incidence of flooding in the state.
