Well-known sports journalist and member of defunct Nigeria Football Federation Techincial Committee, Paul Bassey, has called for the immediate sack of the Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi following another abysmal showing in Sudan on Saturday.
The team, which won the African Cup of Nations in 2013, has only managed a draw out of three matches in the AFCON 2015 qualifiers.
Sundan, which has not scored against Nigerian team for several decades, did not only score but picked all three points in the match against Nigeria at the weekend.
Bassey, in an interview with Brilla FM, said that after Saturday’s match, it has become obvious that Keshi has lost all initiatives to take Nigeria to the next level. For him, he wants the NFF to quickly draft new technical crow that the revive the spirit of the Super Eagles.
Besides, the soccer buff who has served in FIFA committees, urged the NFF president and his executives to quickly extend invitations to the likes of Ike Uche, and other established Nigerian players that can redeem the country’s image.
Bassey believes that anytime wasted would just help to compound Nigeria’s woes.
He advised NFF board to draft i n a coach on an iterim basis while it takes a deeper reflection of the next steps forward.
According to him, the problem with Keshi is that sooner after he led Eagles to AFCON victory last year, he constituted himself overlord who does not listen to any person.
Nigeria has managed only one point out of a maximum of nine and comes at the rear in a group, which include South Africa, Congo and Sudan. Congo had earlier beaten the Super Eagles 3-2 at home in Calabar in Septemeber.
The country now holds very remote chance of qualifying for 2015 AFCON, a tournament it won only some months back.
