Minister pays Keshi N14m
Despite not being on contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Super Eagles Coach Stephen Keshi, has been paid at an enhanced but unnegotiated rate of N7m for both October and November.
Sports minister, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, reportedly paid Keshi for the two months.
AfricanFootball.com, citing a top source, reports, “The minister has been paying Keshi directly from the NFF subvention without any input from the NFF. And one of the aides of the Minister also confirmed that the payment was equally extended to the other members of the technical crew like Amokachi, Shorunmi and others. ‘’It’s part of the agreement when the Minister brought Keshi to fill the gap. There was no NFF in place then’’.
“This cannot be good for the relationship between employer and employee.”
Keshi was in charge for the AFCON qualifiers double header against Sudan in October and then the qualifiers against Congo and South Africa last month.
Nigerian football fans and indeed the NFF want Keshi out in order to fashion out a new beginning for the Eagles, which has oscillated from grace to grass under Stephen Keshi’s watch.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has maintained a contract has not been agreed with Keshi contrary to media reports that the coach will now be paid a monthly salary of seven million Naira, a two million Naira raise from what he received in his initial contract, which ran out after the World Cup in Brazil.
“We have not come to an agreement yet (with Keshi),” he said.
Pundits believe that such direct interferences in football matters by organs and officials of government is retrogressive and does no good for the Nigerian football.
