The committee set up to probe the administration of former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has concluded its sitting at the Chief Judge’s court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry brought its meeting after 30 days of fact finding.
The current governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, had established the Commission of Inquiry to probe the alleged sale of valued state assets by the Amaechi’s administration as well as invite former Commissioners and officials of former Governor Amaechi to explain their role in the financial administration of the state.
Led by Justice George Omereji, the committee reiterated that its work was not to witch-hunt anyone, but was an impartial inquiry into the sale of state assets and other allegations of corruption against the former administration.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, however, claimed that the panel was a machinery set up to misrepresent the facts to blackmail former Governor Amaechi.
Amaechi himself has also insisted that the commission will not be fair to him because it was set up to indict him.
A Rivers state High court had dismissed his suit challenging the setting up of the Commission.TV360
