President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday in a move that was surprising submitted National Conference report to National Assembly.
The President, who just 48 hours more in the office, sent the report to to the National Assembly, urging them to consider and pass it.
The letter indicated that the report had been debated and approved by the Federal Executive Council in March, which resolved “that the draft bill be transmitted to the National Assembly for enactment into law. It held that the recommendations and resolutions that are outside the purview of the Federal Government be forwarded to the relevant tiers of government for implementation.”
”That relevant agencies of government should harmonise the conference resolutions with extant policies for immediate implementation”, the letter read.
President Jonathan in a letter addressed to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives said the report of the conference needed to be forwarded to the National Assembly for legislative consideration and approval.
He explained that the forwarding of the National Conference Report to the National Assembly was sequel to a resolution to that effect at the Federal Executive Council level on March 18 when the report was considered and approved.
The conference held last year had delegations from the six geo-political zones of the oil-rich nation.
For over three months, the conference considered different issues needing attention and at the end made recommendations that are expected to move the nation forward.
The delegates looked at the political formation of the nation, insecurity, revenue sharing formula and others except issues bothering on the unity of the nation with diverse ethnic groups, which the presidency said was a no go area.
President Goodluck Jonathan will be handing over to a new administration on Friday led by a former military Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari.
General Buhari defeated President Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election.
