A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, Kayode Williams, on Sunday said his mission for joining the race is to provide social amenities for Lagosians and create jobs.
Williams claimed that Lagosians were frustrated with the administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola and that he possesses the qualities needed to bring about change.
The aspirant, who returned to the shores of Nigeria after 22 years in the United Kingdom, said he opted to take over from Fashola in 2015 to genuinely serve Lagosians through the provision of social welfare programmes, as obtained in advanced countries, including the United Kingdom.
Addressing a press conference where he formally declared his interest in the governorship race, Williams said he has the experience, exposure and expertise needed to turn the fortunes of Lagos State around.
He added that his mission was to replicate in Nigeria most of the good things he witnessed abroad, beginning from Lagos.
“I am a grassroots politician. My mission for joining this race is simple – to improve the standard of things in Lagos State. It demands a change. The change is what I want to implement if elected.
“After leaving the shores of Nigeria for 22 years, I came back and there is no improvement. I am determined to improve the standard of living in Lagos State, improve infrastructure, qualitative medical facility, and sound welfare programme,” he stated.
On whether he is conversant with political happenings in Nigeria having left the shores of the country for long, he added that the fact that he stayed 22 years abroad does not imply that he lost touch with happenings in Lagos and Nigeria as a whole.
“I was the local government secretary of the NPN during the Shagari hey days. I am from Epe Local Government, Ward A4.
“I was given an appointment as board member with the Nigerian Salt Company, Ota. During the NRC days, I was the state treasurer and a member of Lagos State Library Board. After the emergence of Sani Abacha, I left the shore of the country for UK,” he stated.
“People are fed up with the present administration in Lagos State just because of non-provision of adequate social amenities. They are craving for a change. I am that change,” he said.
