It is sorrowful moment for Chief Jim Nwobodo a former Governor of the old Anambra State.
Nwobodo, who was at various times minister of Sports and Senator, has lost his eldest son, Dr. Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo, Jnr, to cancer.
Nwobodo, while narrating the ordeal to Governor Martin Elechi of Ebonyi State who paid him a condolence visit on Sunday, said Nwodobo Jnr was taken to the best cancer treatment hospital in the US where he stayed for five months and was discharged before he returned to Nigeria recently.
He said the family had even gone to church for a thanksgiving service in his home town, Amaechi Awkwunanu, two weeks ago and that all was well before the abrupt pain on his leg that led to his demise last Friday.
The ebony governor condoled with the Nwobodo family and prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.in Enugu on Friday after he had come back from Houston Texas, USA where he had received treatment for cancer.
Ebonyi, with Enugu and present Anambra State made up the old Anambra State where Nwobodo governed from 1979 to 1983.
The late Ifeanyi was until his death, a member of the board of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.
He was said to have complained of having pains on his leg and met a senior oncologist with the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, after which he died of complications from medication.
Until his death, Nwododo Jnr, a trained medical doctor, was a Commissioner for Science and Technology in the past administration in the state. He was married with children.
