– APC, PDP members reportedly clash ahead of Osun rerun election The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has alleged that about 4,387 votes were removed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from its total ballots during the Osun state governorship election.
The allegation was made by, Bunmi Jenyo, the south west zonal secretary of the party in a press conference on Monday night, September 24, The Tribune reports. He claimed the party was shortchanged by INEC through the summation of votes in Olorunda and Osogbo local government councils by allotting more votes to the All Progressives Congress (APC) than what the party garnered during the poll.
Detailing the said manipulation, the PDP alleged that details obtained from form EC 8C showed that in Olorunda local government, the total votes polled by the APC was 14, 867, while INEC allegedly recorded 16,254 votes for the ruling party, indicating that 1,387 additional votes we’re allotted to the APC. The party also alleged that similar manipulation occurred in Osogbo local government, where it claimed INEC recorded 23,379 votes for the APC when the actual votes polled by the APC stood at 21,479.
The PDP alleged that the electoral body recorded 14,499 for it instead of 14,599, adding the its total votes was reduced by 1,000 in Ayedaade local government.
Meanwhile, there has been a reported clash between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over an alleged move by a politician to buy Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of Thursday, September 27, Osun governorship election rerun in four council areas in the state. The
Nation stated that the said clash reportedly occurred on Monday, September 24, after a chieftain of the PDP, Fatai Oyedele, popularly known as Diekola, allegedly led some leaders of his party to ward 5, unit 17 in Alekuwodo to allegedly buy up voters cards. The police are said to have arrested the PDP stalwart for the alleged conduct, but the party has insisted that he was canvassing for votes and not buying PVCs as being alleged.
