Nigerians will know thier next Presidrnt by Monday March 30, 2015, according assurances by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The commission said it will announce the result of the elections within 48 hours after voting, which is latest on Monday.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, at a joint press briefing with the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi, said the electoral body had put everything in place to ensure a hitch free exercise.
He said that the use of the card reader and the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will make it easier for the commission to conduct an election that will be free, fair and credible in line with international best practices.
Jega also used the opportunity to fault an allegation by some politicians that he was planning to aid the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the card reader contrary to the allegation has no master key but a security chip which can only be breached when the card is cut.
On the statement of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba that people should go home after voting, which contradicts the position of the INEC, Jega said that the IGP’s statement was only advisory.
“There is no controversy whether people should vote and go or stay. People should remain to know who wins in their polling unit as long as they remain calm. The statement of the IG is only advisory,” he said.
