Teams representing Nigeria on the continent have been advised to add quality to their team as they venture into the continent next season.
Since 2011 and 2012 when Sunshine Stars of Akure got to the semifinal of the CAF Confederations Cup and CAF Champions League respectively no other Nigerian club has qualified for the group stage.
The most embarrassing being Kano Pillars FC which won the league yet couldn’t make much impact on the continent.
Against this backdrop, Kadiri Ikhana, who led Enyimba FC to win the CAF Champions League in 2003, advised that clubs in the continental campaign should add quality that would enable them make a good representation in Africa.
“Nigerian clubs haven’t been doing well on the continent. I urge all the clubs that will play in different competitions in Africa to go back and work to the African standard or else they will still fall by the way. It’s not good to qualify and then drop out after just two games,” Ikhana said.
Ikhana over the weekend guided the People’s Elephant of Aba to its fourth Federation Cup triumph after a 2-1 win over premier league rivals, Dolphins FC of Port Hacourt.
