Gunmen in a fresh attack on Plateau State have killed five persons and injured three others.
The attack occurred on Sunday night at Inding village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the Nigerian Police in the state confirmed this to Channels Television, adding that details on the incident are, however, still sketchy.
Plateau State, which had previously enjoyed relative peace, has recently been hit by a series of attacks mainly perpetrated by suspected herdsmen, resulting in the death of several persons.
Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s presence in the state, five persons including three siblings of a family were killed on Thursday, March 8, in an attack by suspected herdsmen in Nzharuvo Village of Miango, Bassa Local Government Area.
Buhari was then in the state on a two-day official visit. He also launched the state’s strategic ‘road map to peace.’
In the series of attacks in the state, 25 persons including 19 men, three women and three children were killed in Dundu village, Kwall District in Bassa Local Government Area of the state on Monday, March 12.
Less than 24hours after the attack on Kwall District some gunmen suspected to be herdsmen hit Rafiki and Dong communities of Bassa Local Government Area of the state with one person feared dead and many others injured.
Three persons were also killed in another attack in Tah community of Dong in Jos North Local Government Area of the state on Friday, March 23.
