The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has emerged winner Enugu state governorship election held on Satuarday March 9, 2019.
Ugwuanyi, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party won landslide with 449, 935 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen Ayogu Eze of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored a distant 10, 423 votes.
The state governorship returning/collation officer, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, announced the final results at the commission’s secretariat in Enugu capital of the state
Prof. Ahaneku is the Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra state.
He said the total registered voters stood at 19, 448, 803; accredited voters, 478,241; valid votes, 470, 927; invalid, 7314; while total votes cast was 478, 241.
The breakdown of the election results showed that the governor won in all the 17 councils of the state.
PDP candidates also cleared all the 24 House of Assembly seats in the state.
The APC candidate and his supporters had stayed away from the polling units claiming that as at the time polling opened on Saturday, his name did not reflect on INEC website.
Prof Ahaneku expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the election and urged those who complaints about the election to seek redress through the make it to the due process of the law.
