Manchester City have not won a match in over a month now, so naturally everything is falling apart at the Etihad and changes need to be made, because the squad sucks, the coach sucks, everything sucks. So let’s go and get a Chelsea player, because they look good right now!
Obviously that was the thought process behind this ridiculous report from The Sun, which claims Pep Guardiola “is lining up a £20 million bid” for Chelsea midfieder Cesc Fàbregas:
“Guardiola is concerned by a lack of creativity in midfield.
The Etihad chief is becoming frustrated by the performances of Fernandinho but does not see Fernando or the exiled Yaya Toure as the answer.
Fabregas, though, could offer a solution and is considering his Chelsea future after falling behind N’Golo Kante in the pecking order.”
The only accurate thing here is that Fàbregas is behind N’Golo Kante (and Nemanja Matic and apparently Nathaniel Chalobah) in the Chelsea pecking order. The rest is stupid, because the only thing City HAVE NOT lacked in this winless run is creativity in midfield; Fernandinho is still playing great, Gundogan is settling in and bossing that part of the pitch, and David Silva is probably playing the best football of his career this season.
But a run of bad results obviously has to mean a squad overhaul, which City probably do need, but midfield is the one part of the team that needs the least amount of work. Fàbregas and Guardiola did work together at Barcelona, and Cesc did play fantastic football under Pep, but that doesn’t mean Guardiola wants to sign a 29-year-old who wouldn’t really improve an area of the team that needs very little improvement.
Man City ABSOLUTELY need full-backs, an extra central defender and probably a third striker. Never a midfielder. Never Cesc Fàbregas.
Next rumor?
