As the 2015 general election draws nearer and considering the security challenges in the North-East, the Federal Government has been advised to consider staggering the election so as to enable it pull enough human and material resources to ensure peaceful, free and fair elections.
The Executive Director, Clean Foundation, Kemi Okenyodo, gave the advice at the formal release of the Fifth Security Assessment in preparation of the 2015 general election, in Abuja, Thursday.
Clean Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation that promotes public safety, security and justice through empirical research, legislative advocacy, demonstration programme and publications in partnership with government, civil society and private sector.
The advice, she said was premise on the successes recorded in the recently conducted to governorship election in Ekiti and Osun states.
She further noted that preparing for the 2015 general election must be done with a view to forestall a replay of the negatives of the preceding polls.
While calling for the proper funding of security agents deployed to election duties, she disclosed that: “During the Ekiti election, we interviewed some of the men deployed to provide security for election, we discovered that most of them sleep in open schools.
“Their allowances have not been paid, and you find situations whereby politicians on that day are providing basic services to them, so how will you expect them to be impartial to perform their duties?” she queried.
