Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has begun massive uplift of road infrastructure in the state in line with his campaign promises to the people.
To the acclaim of the people, Ugwuanyi has flagged-off construction of dualisation of Opi-Nsukka road, which has been the craving of the people of the area, in addition to four others amidst jubilation from the benefiting people of Enugu North senatorial zone.
Others are Obechara road junction – Umuakashi Mechanic Village – Ikenga Hotels Junction and the Post Office round about – Odenigbo round about – Ogurugu road – Ikenga Hotels junction and the Enugu road Nsukka junction – Umezebi – Nru junction – University gate, all within the university town of Nsukka.
Also included in the new lease of life are Ohom Orba junction – Imilike Ani – Ezimo Uno – Ezimo Agu – Imilike Ogbodu Aba – Obollo Afor Roads , all designated as Udenu ring roads as they are located within Udenu council area and are linked one to the other.
Ugwuanyi, while speaking during the flag off, recalled his inauguration speech of 29th May 2015 when he said that the principle trust of his administration was the creation of more urban areas in the state, adding that the flag-off of the roads was in keeping with the promise.
“I wish to thank God for the opportunity given to us to serve you in the capacity we found our selves. You may recall that I made it clear in my inauguration speech that one of the principle thrusts of this administration would be creation of more urban areas in the state,” he said.
The governor affirmed his determination to impact positively on the lives of the people of the state who gave him overwhelming support.
In his remarks at the ceremony, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Edward Ubosi, appealed to the people of the area whose land is affected by the road construction to bear with the state government, adding that it is the sacrifice they are to make for the development of the area.
He said, “let it be the contribution you are to make towards the development of our communities.”
The speaker said that Ugwuanyi was the David of the people of Enugu State that has come to salvage his people, adding that all should continue to give him support.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Patrick Ikpenwa, in a remark, advised the people of the area to guard the equipment and roads under construction.
In their separate speeches, the Chairmen Nsukka and Udenu local government areas, Messrs Charles Ugwu and Amechi Nwodo thanked Ugwuanyi for remembering their council areas that were forgotten by the past administrations in the state. They expressed delight that despite the economic melt down in the country that the governor could still embark on these massive road constructions.
