Gigi Hadid returned to the Met Gala this evening, wearing a Versace dress with stain glass window-inspired detail in accordance with the night’s Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination theme. She walked the carpet solo. Her sister Bella Hadid arrived ahead of her in a vampy black gown.
Hadid hinted she was thinking of Versace earlier in the day on her Instagram story when she posted a note from Donatella Versace to her. “Gigi, can’t wait to see you at the Met. Enjoy another robe for the collection,” the designer wrote. Hadid wore Tommy Hilfiger last year though and has designed multiple collections with the designer.
While Hadid walked the carpet alone, there was good reason to think that Hadid could walk with Malik again tonight. They made their couple debut at the Met Gala in 2016, and Hadid walked alone in 2017 only because Malik was injured then.
Despite their breakup in mid-March, Hadid and Malik were seen kissing in New York City’s Soho two weeks ago. It wasn’t clear then how long Malik would be staying in New York City, but he certainly didn’t do much to dispel the rumor then he would attend the gala with Hadid again between his multiple apartment visits and gushy interviews about her.
Hadid, meanwhile, was reportedly hesitant to get back together with him officially (and perhaps fully enough to warrant a full Met Gala appearance). “[They] broke up because it wasn’t working and nothing has really changed,” the source said last week. “[She] does love him, but she isn’t completely sure this is where she wants to be right now. They are both so busy with their careers and traveling the world. It makes it very difficult to be in a relationship.”
