The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said that the N21billion raised at a recent campaign dinner in Abuja was not meant for President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign.
The party had last December raised N21billion from donors including businessmen, elected government officials and private individuals during a presidential fund raising dinner at the Aso Rock Villa, ahead of the 2015 election.
But the chairman of the PDP Fund Raising Committee, Prof Jerry Gana, a former minister of information, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja, that the money was specifically meant to complete the PDP main secretariat in Abuja which started in 2010 but was abandoned two years after.
He said the project would gulp over N10billion while the remaining amount would go for other PDP projects.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan suspended the inauguration of his presidential campaign committee billed to hold at 2pm yesterday, following the death of his younger sister, Mrs Nancy Jonathan-Olei. The event will hold today.
