Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila has finally emerged as the Leader of the House of Representatives, according to reports .
Gbajabiamila was announced on Tuesday afternoon following high-powered meetings by different interest groups at the House of Representatives.
Just on Monday President Muhammadu Buhari had met with Speaker of the House, Honourable Dogara, and some members of his group on one hand and the Femi Gbajabiamila and his acolytes to see how the conflict among members of the All Progressives Congress on how key offices in the House would be shared.
The crisis in both chambers of the National Assembly over the sharing of the posts had threatened to split the party, which is barely two months in office.
There were reports that the meeting by the members of the house from the opposing groups with Buhari ended in a deadlock, but sources have confirmed that what happened in the House on Tuesday was a direct flow I from the meeting.
As the time of this report, details of the compromise reached by the lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for Gbajabiamila to emerge were sketchy as at press time.
Gbajabiamilla was initially pencilled down by the leadership of the APC to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives, but Dogara working in concert with People’s Democratic Party members of the House beat the annointed candidate of the party to the seat.
But after the emergence of Hon. Yakubu Dogara as Speaker and Hon. Yusuf Lasun as his Deputy, it was thought that Gbajabiamila had totally lost out in the quest to occupy the position of a Principal Officer in the House.
This was because like Lasun, he is from the South West.
The argument had been that for equity, other zones of the country should be allowed to produce Principal Officers.
More so, Lasun vowed not to vacate his position as Deputy Speaker for Gbajabiamila. As at the time of this report it was not clear what is the position of Lasun after this new development.
