THE office of the National Security Adviser has has warned on the likelihood of Boko Haram attack on Lagos seaports, which might be an indication that the dreaded insurgents might be extending their tentacles southward as military continues to pummel their stronghold in Borno State..
Though the insurgents had touched many states in the northern Nigeria, their activities had remained largely restricted to the North.
But the NSA warned in a security alert that Nigerians operating in these ports should be vigilant.
The alert was as a result of the concern expressed by the United States Embassy on the security situation at the nation’s seaports.
The security alert was signed by Assistant Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Enforcement and Intelligence, Mr. Dan Ugo, on behalf of the Comptroller General, Col. Hameed Ali (retd).
The alert has immediate consequence in heightened security measures at the ports.
For instance, the Nigeria Customs Service has begun the restricting the entrance of persons into its various commands and formations in Lagos, resulting increased level of security checks at all access points into the ports.
Vanguard reports that a long queue of clearing agents had resurfaced at the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, gate where thorough checks were conducted before access is granted.
