Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, has said that Federal Government will demolish two bridges in Jibowu andCostain in Lagos to create space for the laying of rail tracks which will start in December.
The minister spoke after a meeting with the contractor handling the rail project, China Civil Engineering Construction Company.
Amaechi however assured that the two bridges would be rebuilt immediately.
He said, “But we are rebuilding them immediately; we are not going to abandon them.
“The challenges will be in the cities like Lagos, Abekouta and Ibadan because we have to pay compensation, look at the water pipes, gas pipes, houses and cables.
“In Lagos especially, we deal with bridges, electric cables and water pipes and other assets.”
The transport Minister also said his Ministry was in dialogue with the Lagos State Water Corporation, the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation( NNPC) and others to relocate their water pipes and other gas pipelines to create way for the rail lines.
Amaechi called on the management of CCECC to expedite action on the rail projects.
He also called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to provide adequate security for officials of the CCECC handing the rail projects.
Among the places visited by the Minister include Ijoko, Papalanto, Itori and Ewekoro communities in Ogun State for site inspection of the project.
