The All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday accused the federal government of lying to Nigerians on the Boko Haram insurgency.
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who was addressing newsmen at the Data Centre in Ikeja which was raided by the State Security Service (SSS) on Saturday, said Nigerians would soon begin to realise that the Boko Haram issue is just a scam.
The government, according to him, knows more than it is saying.
“Today, we have lost more than 22,000 square kilometres of our land to Boko Haram. Today, nobody can do any commerce or business in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states. Today, we have about one million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from those places. If we are to have elections in those places today, who benefits? It is the PDP. This is because they know that out of about five million registered voters in those three states, they would be lucky to get 10 percent of votes across board,” he said.
The APC spokesman alleged that there appears to be a quiet understanding which allows Boko Haram to operate in the three affected states so that there would not be any election in those places.
“That is why I said the federal government is just scamming us with Boko Haram. Not too long ago, this same federal government announced to the whole world that they had reached a sort of agreement with Boko Haram.
Only a few days later, Boko Haram came out to deny ever reaching any agreement. They also denied knowing the person who claimed to be representing them. The same leader of Boko Haram, Shekau, who was said to have been killed four, five times suddenly woke up to deny it and yet there has not been any intelligence from the federal government.
The only reason why the president sold us that dummy was to pave way for his declaration to contest in 2015,” he added.
He said the unlawful raid on the APC property, the unwarranted attacks on House of Representatives lawmakers and the ongoing insurgency in the North-East, are all part of political scheming designed by the ruling party to win the 2015 general elections.
