The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved five infrastructure development projects valued at N56.2 billion in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
This is part of the outcomes of the weekly FEC meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The projects comprise the construction of bridges and access roads to Wuye and Gudu districts as well as the Nigerian Cultural Centre and the Millennium Tower project in the Central Area.
The supervising Minister of Information, Mr Nurudeen Mohammed, briefed State House Correspondents alongside the Ministers of Water Resources and Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Steve Oru and Mrs Sarah Ochekpe, respectively.
Mohammed said that the approvals were based on five memoranda presented to the council by the Minister of the FCT.
The first contract is for the construction of a 14-km one service carriageway of the Inner Northern Expressway (INEX) from Ring Road III to Ring Road IV at the Abuja Industrial Park.
The minister said that the contract was awarded in favour of Messrs Salini Nig. Ltd at N7.2 billion with a completion period of 24 months.
According to him, the INEX is one of the key planned expressways provided in the Abuja Master Plan linking the ring roads from the Central Area to the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX).
The second contract is for consultancy services for the construction of Nigeria’s Cultural Centre and the Millennium Tower project in favour of Messers Sal Consults at the cost of N383.14 million.
Mohammed explained that the consultancy services would include review of the project designs, monitoring and full quantity surveying.
“The third memo is for a contract for the provision of access road and engineering infrastructure to plot 1458 and adjoining plots around Hot FM in Gudu District.
“The contract is in the sum of N1.7 billion in favour of Messers Sageto Limited with a completion period of 17months.
“Again, council approved a memo for the upward review of the contract sum for the provision of engineering infrastructure at Wuye District in favour of Messrs Arab Contractors (O.A.O) Nigeria Ltd.
“The contract cost is N3.4 billion, thereby revising the sum from N39.6 billion to N43.1billion.
“The review will accommodate the construction of a flyover bridge at Wuye District.
“The last memo from the FCT Administration sought the council’s approval for the award of contract for the extension of Inner Southern Expressway from Southern Parkway (58/59) to ring Road II in the FCT.
“It is to be awarded to Messers CGC Nig. Ltd in the sum of N43.4 billion with a completion period of 30 months,’’ he said.
The FCT Minister explained that the road projects would open up Wuye District to other parts of the FCT. (NAN)
