Former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has berated the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi over his interview in which he alleged that amounts in the neigbourhood of $1b was stolen monthly during the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
Sanusi, who was governor of Central Bank of Nigeria between 2009 and 2014, was on suspension in his CBN position for failing to substantiate allegation that over $50 billion was unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, when he was appointed to the traditional stool of emirship of Kano.
Sanusi later scaled the figure down to $12b but shifting upwards again to $20 billion.
The allegation was source public outcry for which then Jonathan administration did not recover from as many Nigerians believed the allegation as if it was a proven fact.Despite his new position, which is guided by conservative tenets, Sanusi has occasionally interjected into the political sphere with controversial releases and statements.
In his latest interview, the Emir of Kano said that in Nigeria, there is no accountability at all and that is why he thought Nigeria’s corruption is worse than corruption in most parts of the world.
The monarch accused Jonathan’s officials of stealing a billion dollars monthly.
But this time the ebullient former minister of aviation, Fani-Kayode, has taken the emir to task.
In his Facebook posting, as reported in Naija.com, the former minister said, “When I was told that the Emir said this to the American media I was left with the conclusion that he has completely lost touch with reality and possibly lost his mind. He should provide the evidence to prove his allegation that one billion dollars was stolen every month by Jonathan or he should just shut up and hold his peace.”
He further blasted President Muhammadu Buhari: “If it is not President Buhari travelling to foreign lands to criminalize and defame the Nigerian people with his malicious words and absurd generalizations it is people like Emir Sanusi Lamido. This rubbish has to stop.”
