A former Governor of Anambra state, Mr.Peter Obi has called on Nigerians to stop celebrating criminality, adding that there is enough money for development in Nigeria.
Obi made the call while speaking at The Platform, a program organised by the Covenant Christian Center on Saturday in Lagos.
The former governor who spoke on the topic: “Cutting cost in governance”, said he saved over N75b for Anambra state before he exited office.
According to him, he saved $50m and N7b in Access bank, $55m and N10b in Fidelity bank, and $155.4m in Diamond bank.
He equally blamed the over-bloated spending habit of most governors as the cause of poverty in Nigeria.
He berated religious leaders of celebrating corrupt politicians especially when they know the person has no viable source of income.
He also advised governors to scrap the Office of the First Lady which he said gulps N2bn monthly.
He said, “It costs an average of N2 billion to run the office of the First Lady in every state in Nigeria. Multiply by 36.
“Nigeria can still function on its income if only we learn how to cut cost.
“We need to cut the cost of governance. No governor needs a house in Abuja; governors don’t live in Abuja.”
