Rev Paul Emeka
An Enugu High Court has ruled that Rev. Paul Emeka remains the authentic General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God church.
The church has been bedevilled by a leadership dispute that has factionalised the church, which is threatening to cause a split.
The court in its sitting on Thursday declared null and void the purported meeting held on March 6, presided by the retired General Superintendent of the Church, Rev. Charles Osueke, where he (Emeka) was allegedly suspended from office.
It ordered those occupying any of the offices illegally on account of the suspension to vacate them without further delay.
Ruling in a suit brought by Emeka over the breach of his rights, the court presided by Justice Anthony Onovo held that he was never removed as the General Superintendent of the church, stressing that the meeting that took the decision was illegal because it was convoked without regards to the constitution of the church or law.
The judge also frowned at the refusal of a faction of the church, led by the Assistant Superintendent, Rev. Chidi Okoroafor, to obey an injunction of the court on the matter.
Reacting to the judgment, Emeka said:
“Justice has been done and truth has triumphed. When it began, I aired my view; I objected to what they did. It was like truth has been buried, but today, the court has justified my stand and made it known that God is God. So, I expect all members of the church and district heads to come together so that we can work and rebuild the church.”
