PEOPLE Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Enugu State, Senator Ayogu Eze has denied there is any rift between him and the Governor Sullivan Chime.
The Senator said that he was only pushing for the party to toe the right line, he said in a statement on Thursday.
Eze had last Monday condemned what he called undemocratic attempts to impose a governorship candidate for the PDP in the State through an unacceptable consensus arrangement.
“I urge the party to do the right thing by providing a level playing field for all legitimate aspirants to express themselves in a truly democratic and fair manner,” he had said.
According to Eze, his rejection of an attempt to impose a predetermined candidate on the people of Enugu State has not caused any rift between him and the governor.
He said that his disagreement with the governor was only on the principle and procedure for choosing the PDP governorship candidate for the forthcoming general elections in the state, Eze said he still held the governor in very high esteem.
He expressed confidence that the governor will realise that those pushing him to take some of the steps he was taking now do not mean well for him and the state.
For the two-time Senator, who represents Enugu North, what is being attempted in Enugu is like the annulment of the June 12 election which nearly rubbished all the achievements of then Military President Ibrahim Babangida administration.
The governorship aspirant said it was still early in the day for the process to be returned to track so that the PDP will pull together in executing the coming elections.
He counselled Governor Chime governor not to allow the selfish interest of a few individuals to force him to do anything capable of tarnishing his democratic credentials, Eze said he was certain that a level playing field will be created for all aspirants in the State.
He also gave assurance that whatever happens in the process of the primaries the PDP will win Enugu State convincingly in all elections, arguing that Enugu is a PDP State any day.
