With the current imposition of 45 percent import tariff on prepaid meter by Nigerian Customs, the price of a single-phase meter will now be around N75,000 while the price for two-phase meter will be in the region of N100,000, according to Business Day.
The Federal Government had stipulated N37,000 and N75,000 as prices of single-phase and two-phase meters, respectively.
Business Day may want to say three phase meters instead of the two-phase meters it wrote in its story published on Thursday, October 17.
We say this because NERC released a statement in April 2019 where it said electricity consumers shall pay N36,991.50 for single phase meters and N67,055.85 for three phase meters.
NERC also said in that release that those costs are inclusive of supply, installation, maintenance and replacement of meters over its technical life.
