In his bid to eradicate illiteracy, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has sounded note of warning to parents, saying that since his government has introduced free education up to secondary level, anyone whose school age child is found hawking or loitering will be arrested together with the child.
The governor said his government has decided to declare emergency in the education sector and also introduced free feeding and uniforms for students because the sector is his administration’s priority.
He warned, “no child of school age should be seen on the streets hawking during school hours, otherwise the child and parents should be arrested and prosecuted henceforth.”
Besides, El-Rufai asked persons aggrieved over his political and ministerial nominations so far to “go and climb Kufena Mountain and fall,” if they are not happy with his choices.
Responding to questions from stakeholders at a town hall meeting with Kaduna Central, otherwise known as zone two, he said he couldn’t give appointment to persons that did not vote for him during the last governorship election.
His words, “If you are not happy with appointments, you can go and climb Kufena Mountain and fall. It was what you voted that you got because we are aware that there are people who did not vote for us; in fact, they worked against us”.
“But now they claim to be APC members and loyal to the party. We know such people. There is no way they would expect anything from us. You didn’t vote us but you want appointments. What you will get is zero. It is politics and, in whatever we do, there is politics.”
