The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has rearrested the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo, over a fresh revelation that he allegedly helped a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to launder $153m during the build-up to the presidential election..
Also under arrest is one of the bank’s Heads of Operations.
The Rainbow learnt that the two top management officials were arrested and detained at the Lagos offices of the EFCC following fresh revelations additional information that that the bank laundered more money than earlier disclosed for the former oil minister, for purposes of rigging the 2015 elections in favor of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Mr. Okonkwo had previously not disclosed the transactions to investigators at the EFCC, and the discovery prompted another security sweep of the bank.
Sources at the EFCC also revealed that Okonkwo was brought before a Magistrate’s Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Wednesday and the court ordered that he be remanded in the EFCC custody for one week pending the outcome of investigations.
Diezanni who has been in London since leaving office for medical reasons is under EFCC probe. She is currently under probe by London police for offences bordering on money laundering and financial fraud.
