The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)has declared the Director General of the National Task Force to Combat Illegal Importation of Small Arms, Ammunition and Light Weapons (NATFORCE), Mr. Emmanuel Osita Okereke, wanted for allegedly jumping bail.
Okereke is facing prosecution by the EFCC on a six-count charge of impersonation, forgery and obtaining by false pretences.
The DG, , a former presidential aspirant under the platform of the Nigerian Liberation Party, was arraigned on November 21, 2013 before Justice J. Y. Tukur of the FCT High Court, Apo, Abuja for allegedly forging a document of the Federal Government titled: “Restricted, Federal Government of Nigeria, National Task Force”.
According to the charge against him, he allegedly falsely held public offices as DG and director, FCT Command of National Task Force, through which he and Ishmael Chinyere Nwogu were said to have fraudulently obtained money for sale of employment forms.
According to a report in the Sun, Okereke has repudiated the claims of the anti-graft agency.
The paper reported that Okereke had warned the EFCC to respect the court, which he said recently restrained the anti-graft agency from arresting him.
He threatened to seek legal redress in the event that he was defamed by EFCC.
