The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Ita Ekpeyong.
Ekpeyong was arrested at his residence, No.46, Maman Nasir Street, Asokoro, Abuja, on Thursday afternoon by officials of the agency supported by armed policemen.
This comes two days after Acting President Yemi Osinbajo fired Mr Lawal Daura as the DG of the DSS.
Attempts by the EFCC to search Mr Ekpeyong’s residence and arrest him in 2017 had been thwarted by DSS officials, sparking controversy.
Mr Ekpeyong had been invited by the anti-graft agency for his alleged role in the arms scam involving a former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (retired), and other service chiefs who have since been arraigned.
He served as the head of the DSS from 2010 to 2015 (Channels Tv).
