Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan Zonal office have arrested a 34-year-old Aminat Okiribiti over an alleged N45 million fraud.
Ayo Oyewole, the Head Public Affairs of EFCC, Ibadan office, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
Oyewole said the suspect allegedly conspired with three others, now at large, by using the decoy of providing cure and spiritual solution to the health challenges of the victim’s children and fleeced her of N45 million.
Oyewole said: “Aminat is married to one Wande Sesan Okiribiti, 47 (still at large), confessed that some of the money obtained from the victim was collected by her through her bank account domiciled at one of the new generation banks located in Ibadan.
“The complainant claimed she allegedly met Wande sometimes in October 2014 at Utako, Abuja, while in search of a cure for the health challenges of her children.
“Wande who posed as a local herb hawker and a spiritualist capable of providing solutions to all problems of unsuspecting patrons, lured her to believing she had the cure to her children’s challenges.
“She subsequently made different payments as advised, totaling N45 million.
“However, the wool fell off her eyes when the request for funds transfers continued unabated, hence a petition to the Commission.”
The public affairs head advised members of the public to be weary of this age long tactic of fraud to avoid falling prey.
Oyewole said Aminat will be charged to court as soon as investigation was concluded.
