Ebonyi Guber: Health Minister, Chukwu emerges PDP consensus candidate
The caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi State has endorsed Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu,as its consensus candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial election.
The choice of Chukwu was made at at the enlarged stakeholders’ meeting, which was presided by the state Governor Martins Elechi in Abakaliki on Tuesday.
According to sources, meeting was attended members of the state PDP caucus, law makers, stakeholders and youth leaders across the 13 local government areas of the State.
Prof Chukwu’s endorsement was helped by the decision of the party in the state to zone the governorship slot to Ebonyi south senatorial district, where Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu hails from.
It was learnt that the governor used the meeting which lasted for more than six hours to explain the importance of eschewing political acrimony in the young state.
He was reported to have said that as a poor state, Ebonyi does not need wasteful campaigns.
” We believe that our decision (choice of Chukwu) is a good one; we strongly believe in God.
“The message will go round; there is room for divergent views but ultimately we believe in consensus”.
As at the time of report, it was not clear whether other aspirants to office in the state had accepted the consensus or even those of them present at the meeting.
Ebonyi’s consensus arrangement followed an earlier one announced by the Enugu State caucus of the PDP, where a member of House of Representatives, Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was chosen.
In the case of Enugu, indications are that all but one aspirant (Senator Ayogu Eze) had endorsed the emergence of Ugwuanyi.
