Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Wednesday invaded the home of a former Director-General of the State Security Services (SSS), Col. Kayode Are (rtd), to eject him.
The operatives reportedly arrived Are’s 50, Alexander Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos, home at about 8:00am.
They were said o have come in two buses around 3pm on Wednesday, breaking down the doors and throwing out his belongings. A member of the household said the operatives did not produce any legal document to back up their action.
Areh was DG of the DSS from 1999 to 2007 under President Olusegun Obasanjo.
According to reports, he had been asked to quit the house before December 31, 2015by the new head of the agency, Lawal Daura.
Are however had gone to court to obtain an order restraining the DSS from forcefully ejecting him. This, it is believed, might have led to the DSS action.
The operatives forcefully removed Are’s belongings from the house.
Correspondents who visited the home reported that they saw armed DSS operaives in the premises, which had its gate secured locked.
They were not allowed to reach Are.
One of the operatives, who came out of the gate, was quoted as saying, “I advice you to go back. You can’t see Col. Are now. If you stay here they may rough-handle you, so it is better you leave immediately.”
