The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, IGP, has deployed Dan Okoro, a commissioner of police, to head the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, FCIID, Alagbon, Lagos.
Okoro, who is a professional forensic and cyber crime investigator, was in the Police Special Fraud Unit, PSFU, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos prior to the latest deployment.
The commissioner said he would do everything possible to bring professionalism to bear and return the FCIID to its past glory through modern investigative skills, intelligence based information gathering and effective crime detection/preventive approach.
“I would drop my signature and person in Alagbon. What I mean is that I would inject professionalism and bring back the glory of what Alagbon was known for. It would be technology driven investigation with lots of forensic injection”, he said.
He went on “FCIID is the apex investigative arm of the force and I would give it the much needed bite to produce results that would be fair to all parties or persons involved. I would re-engineer, reposition, refocus and reinvent FCIID to bring it at par with any investigative agency anywhere in the world. It could be done and I am determined to do it,” he told NewsRangers.
A multiple award winner and celebrated investigator, Dan Okoro is a trained forensic investigator and crack detective of repute, who has unraveled very complicated cases involving notorious and celebrated criminals.
Among the celebrated cases he handled was the arrest of the fleeing Sierra Loanian rebel leader, Fadoh Sankoh in Lagos; arresting and successfully prosecuting the killers of the daughter of an army general, Cynthia Osokogu, the arrest of conveyor belt robbers at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja and recovering Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($350,000) belonging to Cameroun Airlines.
He also arrested the gang of robbers that attack aircraft at the end of the runway while awaiting takeoff clearance from the control tower. These robbers had their hideout in Shasha community of Alimosho council area of Lagos state.
He has represented the force in the Senate subcommittee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and played a leading role in the recovery of over N117billion.
He headed the investigative body setup by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to unravel the knotty issues surrounding the Rivers state re-run election. CP Okoro recovered over N111million in that assignment.
