A Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Mararaba on Tuesday sentenced a labourer, Joshua Musa, 20, of Aku Village, Mararaba, to 12 weeks imprisonment for stealing a goat.
Presiding Judge Albert Maga, convicted Joshua on a two- count charge of trespass and stealing, as he pleaded guilty to the charges.
He, however, gave him N10,000 option of fine, and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Maga also ordered that the accused should pay to the complainant, Mr Stephen Alune, N10,000, which he said was the worth of the goat.
The prosecutor, Cpl, Friday Adaji, had told the court that Musa stole the goat from the complainant’s house in Mararaba.
He said that the complainant reported the case at the `A’ Divisional Police Station, on Dec. 12.
Adaji said that the convict entered the complainant’s house through the fence while he was away.
He said that the complainant’s neighbours raised an alarm and pursued him until he was apprehended.
