A Police Corporal on Thursday shot dead Chris Ifeanyichukwu Eza, the former aide-de-camp to the Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan. Eza, who was the Squadron Commander of Mopol 10 in Bauchi, Bauchi State, was killed by the corporal while on a routine visit to a checkpoint along Ahmadu Bello way, Bauchi. A police source said the motive of the shooting was yet to be established. The source however said the junior officer went berserk during a minor disagreement and shot his superior dead instantly. Eza was reportedly shot five times by the enraged Corporal. The junior police officer was being defaulted by Eza when the enraged junior mobile police officer pulled out his gun and shot him. Sources said the enraged policeman thereafter reported himself at a nearby police station where he was arrested and detained. The death of Eza, who hailed from Erowha in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, has been a rude shock to those who served with him when he was ADC to Governor Uduaghan. The source said that the news of the death had reached Governor Uduaghan. He was said to have expressed shock at the development.
It will be recalled that Eza and his orderly were shot in the leg few years ago when hoodlums attacked the convoy of Uduaghan along the Benin-Warri Highway at Oghara, headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state. The deceased also lost his father, who was a Divisional Police Officer, to armed robbers attack some years back. The Bauchi State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident while speaking with newsmen in Bauchi on Friday. Mohammed said when the incident happened, “the victim was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi where he was certified dead by a Medical Doctor and the corpse deposited at the Mortuary for postmortem examination”. Mohammed said the scene of the incident was visited by the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed K. Mohammed, and his management team. He said the suspect was arrested and detained, while the Commissioner of Police has ordered for a full scale investigation into the matter to know the reason why the suspect shot him to death.
