The Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has called on state governors to be in total control of their states so as to lessen the burden for President Goodluck Jonathan.
Orji made the call on the occasion of the celebration of the 54th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
He urged state governors to do more in their respective states to lessen the burden on Mr. President and called on all Nigerians to stand up and assist the Federal Government in the fight against insecurity and other problems.
The governor said the Federal Government was trying its best to move the country forward and commended it for bringing the Ebola disease under control.
He said the Abia project was in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government as there were many projects by his government in various parts of the state.
Orji used the forum to congratulate the national award recipients from Abia State for making the state proud, noting that for the first time in the history of the state, a sitting governor and many Abians received the award.
The governor reminded the awardees that the honour is a tag for diligence, handwork and called on them to do better than they have done.
Earlier, some of the recipients including Hon. Arua Arunsi and David Ogba Onuoha thanked President Jonathan for finding them and Governor TA Orji fit for providing the platform for the award and promised to do more to justify the confidence reposted in them.
