Against the wish of majority of Nigeria soccer fans, the Nigeria Football Federation is set to offer new contract to Stephen Keshi.
The AFCON 2013 winning coach has gone out fans’ Favour after series of mediocre performance by Nigeria Super Eagles under his watch.
The climax of the Keshi’s trouble is his failure to qualify Nigeria to African Nations’ Cup tournament which will start next week in Equitorial Guinea.
Football pundits believe that Keshi lacks tactical competence to take Eagles to the next level.
But despite public misgivings, Keshi is set to sign s new contract as the Super Eagles handler, with an enhanced package.
This will be the first time a Super Eagles coach would survive after a major flop like what happened in 2014.
The President of the NFF, Amaju Pinnick, confirmed the development after executive board meeting of the NFF held in Lagos on Thursday.
According to Pinnick, the eggheads of the Glass House has resolved that the coach continues in his capacity as the senior national team handler but must submit himself to the NFF’s technical committee.
He said: “Keshi has done pretty well with the national team.
“He has brought smiles to the faces of Nigerians and we believe he deserves some respect.
“So, we have agreed to offer him a new contract.
“We have also agreed that he (Keshi) must work in tandem with the technical committee on matters such as invitation of players into the national team and monitoring of the players in their various clubs in Europe and I can bet you that it won’t be business as usual in our national team.”
Pinnick however declined to state the details of the new contract, assuring that it will be made public when all the grey areas are taking care of.
Keshi, who is currently holidaying in Benin, Edo State, is expected to put pen to paper in Abuja next week.
