High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, owner of Daar Communications, has addmitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to collecting N2.1 billion from a former National Security Adviser, retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki, reports indicate.
But he explained that it was payment for media campaign in his television which was contractually formalised.
Dokpesi, according to a statement by his company on Wednesday, admitted to collecting the money when he was questioned by operatives of the EFCC, who are of the opinion that he was a part of the group that fleeced Nigeria of $2.9 billion in a suspected arms deal.
Dokpesi said the money he collected from Dasuki was for publicity on his television and radio stations, African Independent Television and Ray Power FM.
According to the statement, Daar Communications said its chairman was invited by the EFCC to “shed more light on some payments that were made to him through the office of the erstwhile National Security Adviser to the former President, Malam Sambo Dasuki.
“Dokpesi explained to the EFCC officials that the N2.1 billion that he collected from the former NSA was payment for publicity and media political campaigns during the 2015 General Elections.”
The company said the contract for which Dokpesi was paid the N2.1 billion was “dutifully carried out based essentially on contractual obligations/relationship”.
As at press time, Dokpesi was yet to be released from the custody of the EFCC.
