The Nigeria Police yesterday announced that it had put in place operational strategies to enhance security provision during this year’s Christmas holidays and beyond. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Suleiman Abba, in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Emmanuel Ojukwu, said it had since directed all the Zonal Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and Commissioners of Police in charge of state commands to put in place extended police visibility and patrols taking into consideration their peculiar security situation in order to protect the citizens as they celebrate the Christmas and New Year season. “The various striking units of the Force viz: Police Mobile Force, Special Protection Unit, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordinance Department, Dog Section, Mounted Troops have also been deployed as part of the water-tight security measures” the IGP said.
Abba said the Police Airwing would carry out air surveillance patrols while the Marine Police would ensure a sustained patrol of all waterways. Meanwhile, the police have announced the beginning of the sale of application forms into the Police Academy for the next academic year. In a statement signed by the FPRO, the sale of the form, which began on November 12, will close on March 31, 2015. The statement reads, “This is to inform the general public that the sale of online application forms for admission into the 3rd Regular Course of Degree Programmes of the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, has commenced on November 12 and will end on March 31.”
“Admission to the academy is open to both male and female Nigerians of good character. Application/admission requirements and detailed information are available at the institution’s website: www.nigpoliceacademy.org.”
