Chelsea have no regrets at seeing Mohamed Salah, Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku star for Premier League rivals, says John Terry.
The Blues have seen their transfer policy questioned after allowing three international stars to slip through the net.
Salah is now impressing at Liverpool, De Bruyne at Premier League leaders Manchester City and Lukaku at Manchester United.
Terry, though, insists that the failure of the trio to make a mark at Stamford Bridge means that those in west London will not be wasting too much energy wondering what could have been.
The Blues legend told Sky Sports when quizzed on whether the club will have any regrets: “Not really, because at the time they didn’t make our team stronger.
“Let’s not forget we were one of the best teams probably the Premier League has ever seen, in the early days when they arrived. So, they were coming into one of the best sides which was even more difficult.
“When they come in, can they make a big enough impact to sustain and keep their place?
“No, it’s very difficult to do.”
While questioning the value of those to have graced Chelsea’s books in the past, Terry has also addressed the issue of future transfer targets.
The Blues are reported to have joined the chase for in-demand Southampton centre-half Virgil van Dijk, but a man who filled that position with distinction during his time at Stamford Bridge doubts that the Dutchman would get into Antonio Conte’s team.
He added: “If you look at Liverpool, he certainly goes into the starting line-up.
“Arsenal, the same. Chelsea, he makes their squad better. Man City, he goes into that starting XI. Same at Manchester United.
“I think he goes into all those squads and makes them better.
“If they are demanding £60million, if I were Chelsea, I would be saying more like £55m if he’s not getting in their starting XI.
