On Monday, Chelsea fans got some fantastic news, as Burina Faso international Bertrand Traore was granted an English work permit. The lack of that permit is probably the only reason the youngster spent the last season and a half in the Eredivisie, playing for Vitesse Arnhem.
Traore is without a doubt one of the most exciting prospects in the Chelsea system, and was always expected to travel with the first team squad on their preseason tour of the United States. With today’s news, an impressive summer could lead to some appearances in London as well, especially with the Blues lacking depth on the right wing, and looking to take a flier on Radamel Falcao as center forward depth. Traore has played quite well in both of these roles during his loan spells.
There’s still the possibility that Traore is sent out on loan again, and again, this development should give the Blues more options. Should Jose Mourinho decide to go for a more experienced option on the bench, remaining in England is now an option for the player as well. Regardless of where Bertrand winds up next season, this is great news for Chelsea.
