The Presidential jet which has been in London with President Muhammadu Buhari as he undergoes medical treatment for undisclosed ailment has departed the country on August 1, Vanguard reports.
Nigerians have variously raised eyebrows as to why a presidential jet would be parked in London for months with attendant humongous costs when it could easily be dispatched from Nigeria in a six-hour journey to fetch the President whenever he is due home.
According to the news outlet, the whereabouts or destination of the jet could not be ascertained which consequently caused anxiety within the presidential villa.
The Presidency is said to have denied having awareness of the development as both media aides to the president, Femi Adesina and Garba Lawal claimed such news should be regarded as a rumour.
Mr Adesina who denied knowledge of the development according to Vanguard said, “BBC also called me and said the president’s aircraft had taken off, I should confirm it. I said the tradition is that if the president is coming, we will be asked to issue a statement but there has been no such instruction.”
Vanguard however reported that “as at the time of filing this report late Tuesday night, there was no confirmation to the effect that the presidential aircraft had left London and there was no movement within the Presidential Villa to support the rumour.”
