President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday wrote to Nigerians, telling them that he needed to spend more time in the United Kingdom to rest.
This followed an earlier news that the results of his medical rests were out.
Buhari who left Nigeria on January 19 for initial 10-day leave has been in United Kingdom for more than one month.
He had earlier written the National Assembly informing the lawmakers of his intention to stay on in UK pending the result of his medical tests.
Buhari however duly handed over to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who has been acting since his principal left the shores of Nigeria.
There have been a lot of speculations and rumours as to the true state of the President’s health.
Some rumour peddlers even went to the extent of saying he had died.
But the President’s spokes persons have maintained that the President is ‘hale and hearty’, even though probably a few Nigerians believe them’
The overwhelming consensus is that all is not well with the president’s health, what is not clear is whether it is of the nature that would enable him resume in his position at a later date.
In his letter dated February 27, which made was public through his media aide, Femi Adesina, he said the rest is deserved following the results from the series of medical tests he carried out in the United Kingdom where he is on vacation.
The president, who noted that he is staying longer than expected in the UK, reportedly stated this in a four-paragraph statement through his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina.
The president thanked Nigerians for their prayers, good wishes and support adding that there was no cause to be troubled.
“President Muhammadu Buhari thanks millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country.
“The President is immensely grateful for the prayers, show of love and concern.
“President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry.
“During his normal annual checkup, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned,” he said
