Ali Modu Sheriff, the immediate past chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party has stormed the Wadata Plaza National Secretariat of the party to take over power. According to Premium Times, Sheriff led his group to storm the secretariat early in morning on Monday, June 13.
He was however prevented from gaining entrance to the secretariat by security operatives.
It would be recalled that the former Borno state governor was chairman before the party’s national convention held in Port Harcourt on May 21. Before he left, Sheriff announced the cancellation of the convention, citing court orders.
However, other leaders of the party ignored him and went ahead with the convention, announcing his sack and the appointment of a caretaker committee headed by former Kaduna state governor, Ahmed Makarfi. At the time of this report, the secretariat has been cordoned off by security forces to prevent any break down of law and order.
