Many killed as Boko Haram strikes again in Yobe
Members of the deadly Boko Haram terror group on Friday attacked Friday Damagum, a town about 70km from Damaturu, the Yobe State capital barely one month after it unleashed mayhem in Damaturu,this even as the military killed about 75 members of the terror group in Borno.
Damagum is located in Funne Local Government Area.
According to reports, Sources in Damaturu, most residents of the town fled into the bush for safety as the dreaded sect struck at about 6pm.
It was from the safety of the bush that they called their relatives in other parts of the state, especially Damaturu, to inform the military of the attack and the need for prompt intervention.
Damagum was also attacked in 2012.
The militants deployed both explosives and guns in the attack, which is believed to have resulted in many casualties.
the full picture of the attack had not full emerged by press time Friday.
Reports as at press time on Friday were sketchy.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army Killed not less than 75 Boko Haram terrorists at a PHCN facility in Borno
state the same Friday.
Sahara Reporters reports that over hundred Boko Haram militants entered Bulaburin village to attack army men who escorted PHCN personnel to repair power installations devastated by terrorists six months ago in Damboa.
The insurgents came in a convoy of Hilux vehicles and motorcycles but met heavy resistance, an army source was cited to have said.
A PHCN staff on assignment in the area told journalists that the troops killed up to 75 militants during the clash. He said: “I am happy today because it would have been a black day for us at Bulaburin.
We went to repair Maiduguri electrical infrastructure which had been shut down by militants since July as we were working we started hearing sporadic gun shots, so the troops fought back.
However, the intense fight affected our vehicles;we drove to Maiduguri on flat tyres.”
According to a security source, soldiers at the scene were at warned immediately they were hinted that the Boko Haram were coming to attack them.“Our soldiers climbed the telecom mast to see them, and behold they were coming in large numbers in Hilux pick up vans, motorcycles and cars.
The soldiers waited for them, and when they came, they attacked them immediately,” the security source said.
