*Urges Rivers people to disregard rumour of his withdrawal from governorship race as he is primed to lead Rivers PDP back to Brick House
Leading Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has urged Nigerians, especially Rivers State indigenes to disregard planted reports by frightened governorship aspirants that he has opted out of the governorship race, saying that he is contesting the PDP governorship primary on December 8, 2014.
Speaking on Monday at Okirika LGA during his on-going Meet the PDP Delegates, Barrister Wike said that his consultations with party delegates and leaders have been very successful, hence he is convinced of his victory during the December 8 governorship primary and the general election on February 28, 2015.
He said that aspirants who have taken to sponsorship of false reports on the pages of newspapers, online and the electronic media are doing so because they are frightened of his popularity and acceptance amongst the party delegates and the Rivers people.
Barrister Wike said: “These false planted reports on the pages of newspapers and the electronic media that I have withdrawn from the race and contesting the Senate seat are proofs of my general acceptance, popularity and the confirmation that I am primed to win the governorship primary and the general election in the interest of the people.
“The Rivers people cannot be deceived by lies told by frightened aspirants who have no connection with the PDP members, delegates and leaders. They are not in touch with the Rivers people, hence their resort to falsehood and untenable stories. The PDP family is united behind me to lead our party back to Brick House”, Barrister Wike said.
He noted that the Rivers people have resolved to have nothing to do with the APC, since the party has failed them.
“I have the capacity to face APC and defeat them. The so-called gubernatorial aspirants are afraid of competition, hence they are jumping from one office to the other telling stories. We have met with the delegates in 10 other councils and they have all endorsed me. I am happy that the Okirika delegates have also endorsed me. God willing, we shall occupy the Presidential Villa and Brick House in 2015,” he declared.
Responding on behalf of the delegates, Barrister Gogo Menanya said that have resolved to vote for Barrister Wike during the governorship primary and work for him during the general election.
In his remarks, Senator George Sekibo representing Rivers East Senatorial District assured the former Minister of State for Education on the votes of Rivers PDP delegates at the governorship primary.
Also speaking, Member representing Okirika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency, Mr Gogo Bright Tamuno stated that the Okirika endorsement is yet another confirmation that Rivers State people have resolved to follow Wike all the way.
The governorship aspirant also had a consultative meeting with Okirika community leaders at the residence of Chief Ateke Tom.
Prominent politicians who accompanied Barrister Wike to Okirika LGA include: Member of House of Representatives representing Port Harcourt 2 Federal Constituency, Blessing Nsiegbe, Former Senate Whip, Senator Adawari Pepple, Former Rivers State Commissioner of Works, Alabo David Briggs, Mr Evans Bipi of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Vincent Nemieboka, former Commissioner of Commerce, Rivers State and Mr Timothy Nsirim, former Chairman, Obio Akpor LGA.
